Lin Carter

A tireless champion of pulp adventure who wrote it, edited it, and saved it from being forgotten.

Lin Carter was a one-man engine of mid-century genre fiction — a prolific writer of sword-and-planet and sword-and-sorcery, a devoted pasticheur of Burroughs, Howard, and Lovecraft, and arguably the most important fantasy editor of his era. As founding editor of the Ballantine Adult Fantasy line, he dragged dozens of out-of-print classics back into readers' hands and helped define what the modern fantasy shelf would even look like.

His own novels — the Thongor of Lemuria saga, the Green Star series, the Callisto and Zanthodon books — are unabashed planetary romance: lost worlds, sword-swinging heroes, and exotic vistas delivered at breakneck pace. Subtlety was never the point; momentum and wonder were.

Expect fast, colorful, affectionate adventure from a writer who loved the genre so completely that he gave much of his life to keeping its roots alive. Carter is for readers chasing the old-school thrill of a strange planet and a drawn blade.
