K. W. Jeter

The fierce stylist who coined the word “steampunk” and gave cyberpunk some of its darkest edges.

K. W. Jeter is an American author admired for intense, dark, stylistically bold science fiction. A protégé of Philip K. Dick, he wrote the acclaimed, paranoid Dr. Adder and the reality-warping Farewell Horizontal, and he coined the very term “steampunk” to describe his Victorian-set fantasies like Infernal Devices. He was also chosen to write official Blade Runner sequel novels.

Jeter writes uncompromising, often disturbing fiction with a noir sensibility and real literary ambition, unafraid of bleakness or strangeness. His influence on both cyberpunk and steampunk is foundational. Expect dark, edgy, intelligent SF that pulls no punches. His work runs genuinely dark and strange, so the per-book pages are worth a look before you decide where to begin; each carries an age and content rating to help you choose your entry into his noir-soaked futures and Victorian fantasies.
