John Dalmas
A smokejumper and paratrooper turned novelist, whose military SF is grounded in a deep feel for the natural world.
John Dalmas — pen name of John Robert Jones — was an American science-fiction and fantasy author with an unusually rugged background: a WWII paratrooper who later worked as a logger, smokejumper, and research ecologist before turning to fiction. He is best known for the Regiment series, following the disciplined T'swa mercenary warriors of a military planet, and for the political thriller The General's President.
Dalmas's training as an ecologist and his outdoor life inform his vividly realized worlds, while his military fiction reflects a thoughtful interest in discipline, culture, and the spiritual side of the warrior. Expect well-built settings, capable heroes, and idea-aware adventure. His science-fiction titles, including the Yngling far-future saga, appear across our catalogue. As always, the individual book pages are the best guide to each title's setting, tone, and content — every entry content-rated and age-guided.
