Synopsis

The great pard, emblem of the House of Eigin, is fallen. That noble line is unmade, its members in hiding in the provincial keep of Southkirk, its last prince a kitchen serf who answers to the name of Kinch. And the invader, Sorgun, Lord of Lothia, oppresses the land with the aid of the mysterious Priests of the Eye. Sorgun's dominion is savage and his vengeance upon Eigin swift. But the word kinch means a trick or a noose, as the Lothians will soon learn.
