All Tresky Buffrum wants is a taste of adventure and freedom before resigning himself to the simple life of a shepherd.What he gets instead is a mysterious wife (determined to remain chaste) who leads him to the Midas Crater, where some of the planet's intelligent natives have been inexplicably transformed into gold. Along the way, Tresky meets a mad, murderous major, a policewoman who wants to seduce him, undercover agents, princesses-and a mute, mysterious alien who befriends him.When interplanetary conspirators seek to destroy the Midas Crater and unwittingly unleash a force that would destroy mankind, the only one standing in their way is-You guessed it.
