Synopsis

Gen. James M. Decker's train was forty cars long, armed to the teeth, decorated with two huge American flags, filled with prisoners crammed into its stifling boxcars. One of them had walked on the moon. He was Mackenzie, former marine fighter pilot and astronaut in the time before the plague years, before the American police state had crumbled into a lawless realm of roving armies and heavily armed camps. Now Mackenzie is checking out of General Decker's boxcar Army of America, heading into the dusty California hills with a beautiful Indian named Alice, and hooking up with a commune of hard-fighting. hard-loving survivors led by ex-marine Frank Hovik. Together they've got to find out where Decker's train is headed—and why. Because if someone doesn't stop him, Decker is going to turn a shattered country into a slaughterhouse...
