Twelve-year-old Frankie Lenten never asked to be swept up into a rebellion against the secret superpowered society known as Artemin, but she has no choice after being hit by a rebel fireball that gives her superspeed. And even though she agrees with the rebellion that Artemin's rulers are overbearing and they should let everyone use their powers, a terrifying encounter with one of their psychotic leaders convinces her that there is true evil on the rebel's side.
