Synopsis

The last book in the trilogy which began with The moon in the cloud and followed by The shadow on the sun which continue the adventures of Reuben and Thamar, now Prince and Princess of Canaan. Their happiness is marred by one great sorrow - their afflicted son, Sadhi. Deaf and dumb, tyrannical in his frustration, he is sent back to Kemi where Thamar believes he can be cured. But Sadhi arrives at King Merenkere's Court at a time of great upheaval; and the Royal Architect, Hekhti, Reuben and that profoundly wise old cat, Cefalu, are called upon to face their greatest trials yet - trials that can only be resolved by sacrifice.
