Dell is a fortysomething misfit who believes that the dictionary contains mystical powers, that random selections reveal the secrets of life and death. Fifteen-year-old Kee is waiting for "the man of her dreams" to rescue her from the boredom -- and decency -- of Cherokee Rose, Georgia. When she meets Dell and casually suggests they murder her parents, it's only the beginning of their macabre adventures on the road.As they blunder and plunder their way across America with little more than a stolen van, a beer cooler, and a pair of garden shears, Dell and Kee assume a gruesome task, taking "souvenirs" from each conquest. But high-minded Dell has another he intends to fulfill every work defined for him in "the Book" as he prepares for his immortal destiny -- the eternal flight of the phoenix.
