"This is, I believe, the first work of fiction to treat at any length of life as it may have been lived in ancient Minoan civilization — a civilization which, archeologists tell us, surpassed in grandeur that of Babylon, Nineveh, and Tyre, and may possibly have surpassed, in some phases, the civilization we know.
