Synopsis

The inspiring tale of a pack of English Setter dogs. Their thrilling adventures are related by the Setters themselves and are inspired by true-life events but taken into the realms of magical realism. The characters are the author's own family of seven Setters, all related to one another but each with a distinctive personality. At times their exploits will cause the reader to laugh out loud, whilst others are intensely moving, with a touch of the supernatural - and always compulsively page-turning. Part One is narrated by Ben, the Pack's grandsire and guide, who passed over the Rainbow Bridge several years before, but because of a love stronger than Death, he is allowed to tell his story. He travels back in Time to relate the adventures of the Pack's Founder Members then, in Part Two, he introduces the present day pack who tell of their own perilous exploits and magical encounters. The presence of Ben is strong throughout, but especially when danger threatens his brood, sending out a heart-warming message of continuity and a life beyond. Another strong presence throughout is that of Grey Pelt, the sinister and fearsome Spirit of the Last Wolf who haunts Setter dreams and also the pages of the book. The Pack are vaguely aware of their ancient ancestors and Grey Pelt singles out one Pack member from each generation to carry the secret; that the thing they fear most is also the source of their greatest help. Through the ghostly teachings of Grey Pelt the Setters learn that nothing matters more than loyalty to the pack and their human Alpha-pair. This is a cross-over book, uplifting and thought-provoking, to be enjoyed by all age groups. Unique and compelling, it will change the way you look at dogs - and Life!
