Synopsis

Kerek Leight, who is monitored by computer because of her past crimes of lesbianism and a previous escape from the vast city-state of the Chicago-Milwaukee-Megalopolis, is approached by a group consisting of three scientists, a programer, a teacher and seven DNA-improved teens who have various psychic powers. The group wants Kerek to lead them in a new escape from the Mega's excessive social controls and its self-contained atmosphere. Kerek finds herself attracted to Tyne Raykar, the programer, as she reluctantly agrees to help them. Making the escape more difficult is the fact that the surrounding countryside is so polluted, life there is rumored to be impossible. The group is confident because the seven psychics have predicted their freedom and it is soon revealed that they have been charged to perform a mysterious "interlock" that will save the Earth from further destruction. Unfortunately, Mega Central learns of their escape plan and is determined to stop them.
