While planning a fishing holiday, Sexton Blake is approached by an old friend, Professor Malachi O'Beirne, who claims to have seen a leprechaun. Postulating the the 'little people' are actually remnants of an ancient race, O'Beirne persuades the detective to take his holiday in Ireland and help him locate a living example.
