In a strange time in a forbidden world, a primitive tribe of men, women, and children struggle against the darkness to survive. Hsoro is the Tribe’s trusted and respected leader, tormented now by his awesome responsibility and power. Krilu is the wise and ancient shaman who bears terrible witness to the past, telling tales of days when fire touched the skies. Together they must prepare the people—short on food and shorn of hope—to face the onslaught of the coming winter. But even more dangerous than the approaching season of ice is the sudden appearance in the forest of a cruel and mysterious creature which kills for pleasure, and with cold efficiency. As Hsoro bravely sets out to track the murderous Beast to its lair, little does he know that he will soon confront the horrifying truth about his people’s past…and their uncertain future.
