The wrong guy just got the right AI. In a society where every citizen is given an AI at birth, Cal Bennett is one of the rare few who doesn't have one. These AIs can do all sorts of things, depending on how expensive they are, so the rich have the best and the poor have the worst. Cal never asked for any of this, but when he inadvertently rescues a brilliant corporate scientist, he's gifted something spectacular: his very own AI. But it isn't just any AI. This one is special. It has abilities far beyond any other AI in the world. Suddenly, Cal has a target on his back and a voice in his head that won't stop asking questions. This AI isn't like the others. It upgrades itself, with no limit in sight, and every time it does, it becomes something new. Something better. And so does Cal. Everyone wants what Cal has, and they'll stop at nothing to see him dead. On top of that, the AI hardwired into his skull is just as lost as he is since its maker died before either of them could learn what it was built to do.
