Synopsis

INEVITABLE begins in 1978. But this cannot be confused for our 1978, and despite broad similarities, this is not our Earth. Quentin Maurus is a smart, imaginative young man. Because his father was labeled a Hero, Quentin doesn’t have to serve in the military. Which is a rare, rare blessing in his world. That’s why he can graduate from college while still in his early twenties. Even though he lives in a society ruled by women, his life should be easy and rich. Potential lovers without end, and abundant jobs for good boys who are willing. Except of course nothing in life is easy. That’s one principle that carries across every Earth, regardless of its history or collective promise. Human existence is boobytrapped with bad choices and bad luck, particularly for a skeptical boy who can’t stop seeing the contradictions and absurdities in daily life. INEVITABLE is the first volume of THE TRIALS OF QUENTIN MAURUS. Ordinary life on an alternate Earth: That’s the heart of the story. And when INEVITABLE concludes, everybody will die.
