Meteorites of varying sizes, some large enough to blast out craters miles across, had been striking Earth with increasing frequency. Now deep-space radar data showed that a huge object over seven miles across was hurtling through space towards a region near the border between China and Russia. The U.S. government devised a piloted mission to intercept the killer meteoroid and destroy it…but powerful interests would be served if the killer object would be allowed to strike.
