Synopsis

For more than a thousand years, the remote Austrian village lay uneasily in the castle's forbidding shadow. And when storms broke forth & lightning flashed across the sky, something emerged from the broken battlements, something dark & evil & hungry for human blood. Its victims were always women, always horribly mutilated. Only one person dared to explore the mystery of the castle, a young American who disregarded all warnings & entered the dank passageways & moldering chambers. When at last he left, he was a changed man, taking the shadow of evil with him, away from the tortured village to a small New England town where the terror would spread, & grow, & multiply.
