Eighteen-year-old Kate Crimonesi saw the elf reflected in her bedroom window. She had seen it once before, ten years previously, in a photograph of Professor Bodkin, the writer. Then, it looked pretty. Now, Kate sees that it is old, haggard and malevolent. The elf soon begins to intrude on her thoughts and life. Unknown to Kate, those closest to her have also begun to experience horrors of their own.
